The adventure continues as the crew of the Nirvana encounter an enemy mother ship. Their initial attack against the alien "harvesters" proves futile, and tempers flare among the mecha pilots, exacerbated by the struggle between Misty and Dita for Hibiki's affections. When Jura sacrifices herself in a second attack, she inspires the quarrelsome group to work together: for the first time, all the "Dreads" fuse to form a giant CG super-mecha. Hibiki uses the robot Pyoro (who recalls 7-Zark-7 in Battle of the Planets) to deliver a virus that reduces the mother ship to so much scrap metal. Back aboard the Nirvana, the other crew members lock Hibiki and Dita in a room and watch them try to resolve their growing attraction. Neither is a exactly prize: Hibiki is hot tempered and immature; Dita makes Mihoshi in Tenchi Muyo! sound intellectual. Wow, what a volume. This one sets a new level for this series. I thought the last volume was good, but this one is even better. Its funny, as this series goes on and the characters evolve, it gets better and better. Not often these days does that happen, even in Anime. The combo of Cel and CGI is improving with every episode as well. Also, as the show evolves, the comedy is now starting to take a back seat to the serious aspects of the show. It's still hilarious of course, but the darker moments of this series are getting darker, and coming more often.

Yet another great installment of a great anime. The music is a bit lacking, but the storyline is getting much more complex (now that the characters have had time to develop). Despite the editorial review, Jura did not get killed. Gascogne (the supply officer) sacrificed herself. Jura ended up getting banged up, but she's very much alive. If you've seen the first stage (the first four DVDs), the second stage is well worth the time, effort, and money. This DVD is no exception, and is a must-have for any Vandread fan (and any sci-fi anime fan in general).

4 out of 5 stars funny   January 8, 2009

Vadread is a mix of funny and drama at the same time, essentially imagine if battle of the sexes lead to men and woman completely seperating and going as far as being mortal enemies well that is what happens in this series with hilarious results and the newest generation discovers that the oposite sex is not a group of raving monsters who cannibalize each other. And a race of androids attacks them both. yes its kooky but funny. Buy but if you can't rent atleast just keep in mind that this is japanese anime. on a darker note its sad to see the greatest anime brought about by geneon which no longer exists. We need more anime companies who bring anime to the US
